
The Robert C. Atkins Foundation has given $2 million to the Duke University School of Medicine to fund an endowed professorship as well as for research, clinical care and education in the areas of nutrition and metabolism.
The Wachovia Foundation is giving Duke University $1 million for afterschool programs for low-income Durham school children and for Fuqua School of Business programs.

(From the Duke News Service) Nine recent high school graduates have been selected winners of Benjamin N. Duke Scholarships, which are undergraduate merit awards at Duke University.
The awards cover full tuition, stipends for domestic and international summer services endeavors, and an in-school leadership program to enhance students' studies.
Each year, a faculty committee presents the awards to students from North and South Carolina who demonstrate strong academic performance, outstanding leadership ability and community involvement. Based on estimated tuition rates, this scholarship is worth more than $100,000 to a student enrolled for four years.

The scholarships were established by The Duke Endowment to honor Benjamin N. Duke, who provided major support to TrinityCollege and later DukeUniversity.
